NAHJ and its donors and supporters offer a series of scholarships annually to help young Latinos and others pursue a career in journalism through the Rubén Salazar Scholarship Fund and Educational Programs. The NAHJ Scholarship Application can now be completed and submitted online with all supplemental materials attached.
Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 with a variety of opportunities for all, from incoming freshmen to those in graduate school. Please review the listing of scholarships NAHJ offers and apply based on the criteria and the qualifications required. Since the inception of the scholarship program in 1986, NAHJ has awarded more than $1.6 million in scholarships to 610 students.
The deadline to submit an online NAHJ scholarship application is April 5, 2013. Incomplete applications will not be considered. All applicants must be student members of NAHJ. To become a member, please visit the membership application page and join online with a credit card or download the membership form and mail it to NAHJ with a check. All applicants must be attending an accredited college/university within the United States and Puerto Rico when they receive the scholarship.
To start the application process, students must set up an account with a Username and Password. This will allow students to complete the applications in stages over a period of time as needed. You can start filling out the application, then hit "Save and Complete the Application Later", and then go back to continue filling out the application or supplying attachments by logging in with your Username and Password that you have create.
Once the application is complete with all the criteria and attachments in place, you can hit the "Submit" button. Once the submit button is pressed, you are no longer able to modify the application.
To complete your application, you will need to attach the following: a resume, two letters of recommendation, an unofficial transcript(s), a 1000-word autobiographical essay, and three work samples.
